I can’t believe how lucky we are. As a writer growing up, I never once thought that someday, someone in India would be reading my writing! When we started Ripples, we thought we’d get about 50 views, aiming for 100 as a stretch goal, which we topped (at 170) on our first day. Words cannot express how amazing it is to have the opportunity to learn from everyone. For instance, today one of our readers is from Macedonia. Thus, I learned where Macedonia is, what its flag looks like, and listened to the national anthem. Every day I’m reminded that the world is a lot bigger than my own corner of the globe, and this inspires me to live even more sustainably for the sake of not only the trees I can see, but all the trees I can’t see. It also inspires me to keep connected to others, as I just realized that our contacts in Costa Rica haven’t been reading Ripples since before February – so I need to see how they are doing, what’s new in their lives, and what I can learn from their perspectives on the world.
I could no sooner imagine living on our homestead and only talking to local neighbors, than I could imagine never talking to my grandmother in Pennsylvania. Our local neighbors live close by, and face-to-face conversations are great, but the world is interconnected and I want my communication to emulate that broader picture. I used to raise money for distant causes in distant countries I knew nothing about, and now, I am privileged to work directly with real people in those distant countries who are telling me directly what support they need. And they are supporting me, too. This is my hope for the world, in its dawning awareness of itself: what is in front of my face will be as important as the consequences it has which I cannot yet see.

I enjoy every word! I am learning through you! Thank you Ripples!
The themes you talk about, independance from economic shackles, harmony with nature, concern for fellow human beings, these resonate within all of us!
I’m actually not a bit surprised.

FYI Readers: You do not have to sign up for anything to place a comment, and may do so anonymously without having a WordPress account. After testing to verify this, WordPress does not email you after typing in your email address. I’ll be doing a blog post on commenting, with Ryan’s technology input, to go into more detail about this. Thanks for your feedback letting us know that commenting was confusing! Thanks!!
