A Cupful of Bunnies

This is the second greeting card design in a series on teacups and mugs with small animals using them in various ways.  I have more ideas than I have time, so, who knows when the third design will be finished?  I believe it will involve mice using a decorative teacup as a hot tub.

A Cupful of Bunnies came about while I was eating at the Farmer’s Table Cafe with a friend.  Their dishes are unique and always something different, and that day it was a simple coffee mug (I had ordered one of their deeply satisfying almond milk lattes).  The mug made me want to draw with a compulsion, as it sometimes goes.  At first, the project was just an empty mug, but I had seen photographs online of various animals inside cups.  I pieced together about five such photographs to get an idea of what I wanted to do, then started in drawing bunnies.  Admittedly, the lop-eared one I call butterscotch didn’t turn out the way it looked in my mind, but the shy personality of the white rabbit eventually came through after many attempts.  The cottontail baby gave me no trouble…but it was a good reminder that I needed sharper pencils!
